| Job Title: Assistant or Associate Professor in African American Studies |
| Description |
The African American Studies Program in the College of Liberal Arts and
Sciences is seeking to fill two tenure-track positions at the assistant
professor or associate professor level. Each appointment will be in
both the African American Studies Program and in one of the following
academic departments in the college, which will serve as the tenure
home: anthropology, economics, history, philosophy and religious
studies, political science, psychology, sociology.
Position 1
requires a scholar with a teaching and research emphasis on the African
Diaspora/Black Atlantic world, broadly conceptualized, from any
disciplinary perspective listed above. Position 2 requires a scholar
with a teaching and research emphasis in other areas of specialization
within African American Studies, again from any disciplinary
perspective listed above. Successful candidates will have a Ph.D. in an
appropriate discipline by the beginning date for the appointment
(August 16, 2009), possess expertise in African American Studies, and
demonstrate potential for mentoring African American students.
Candidates for associate professor need a record establishing
excellence in scholarship and teaching, and candidates for assistant
professor need a record promising future excellence in scholarship and
teaching.
The new faculty members will sustain an active program
of scholarship in their area of specialization, teach courses in the
program and in the tenure-home department, and function as mentors and
role models for African American students.
